Season timing

When should pumpkins go up?

In the Philadelphia suburbs, between mid-September and late October. That is the range our porch delivery windows cover. An earlier window gives you more weeks with the display up; a later one puts the freshest pumpkins on your steps for Halloween.

The tradeoff, in weeks.

A display placed in mid-September has roughly six weeks in hand before Halloween, and another four after it if you carry the display to Thanksgiving. A display placed in the last week of October has about one week before Halloween, and the same four after.

The late window costs you September and the first half of October. It buys you pumpkins at their best on the one night most people are looking.

Is September too early?

By the middle of the month, no. The pumpkins go out whole, and a whole pumpkin is hardy in a Pennsylvania autumn, so the season can start weeks before Halloween. A carved one has a far shorter life outdoors.

And when does it come down?

Around Thanksgiving, if you have added removal to the booking. The pumpkins then leave for a local animal farm. The season week by week, from the first delivery window to the last collection.
