Doing it yourself, or handing it over.
We put a price on our half of the job. The pumpkins are the half only you can price, because that comes down to where you shop.
Taking the DIY delivery on a smaller package saves $75, so that is what our design and installation cost you. The rest of the sum is what pumpkins cost near you, and that depends on where you buy them.
What our part of the job costs.
On A Touch of Fall and Pumpkin Pop you may take a DIY delivery instead of a full install. We deliver the pumpkins we picked for you, you arrange them, and the price drops by $75.
That is a price on our own labor. On A Touch of Fall at $350 it comes to 21% of the total, and on Pumpkin Pop at $550 it comes to 14%. Choosing the pumpkins, sourcing them, and getting them to your door stay with us either way.
So you have three options. Buy the display installed, buy the same pumpkins and arrange them yourself for $75 less, or source the whole thing from scratch. Only the third one takes any arithmetic.
What you would be buying.
The counts are Pumpkin Pop, item for item. The unit prices are assumptions, there so the arithmetic has something to work on. Put your own local prices in their place.
| Item | Count | Assumed unit price | Assumed subtotal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large pumpkins | 6 | $15–$25 | $90–$150 |
| Medium pumpkins | 6 | $8–$15 | $48–$90 |
| Pie pumpkins | ~10 | $4–$8 | $40–$80 |
| Specialty pumpkins | 6 | $12–$30 | $72–$180 |
| Hay bales | 1–2 | $8–$15 | $8–$30 |
| White ghost pumpkins, minis, and gourds | Included, uncounted | — | Not counted, so not priced |
| Assumed materials total | — | — | $258–$530 |
Against a package price of $550 installed, or $475 with the DIY delivery. The white ghosts, minis, and gourds come with every package of ours, and we do not count them out, so they sit outside that materials total.
What that tells you.
At the low end of those assumed prices, sourcing it yourself comes out well under $475. At the high end it does not. The range is wide because the assumptions are wide. What pumpkins cost near you settles it.
Specialty pumpkins are the line most likely to move it. They are the fastest-growing count across our packages and the hardest to find at one stop, so in a DIY build they carry both the price risk and the sourcing risk.
The costs neither column shows.
A worksheet prices the materials. Four other things cost you as well.
- Sourcing. Four size grades plus specialty and white varieties, which rarely sit at one stand.
- Transport. 28 counted pumpkins, several of them large, plus a hay bale or two.
- Arranging. The part our DIY option prices at $75, done by you.
- Taking it down. Our removal add-on runs $75 to $175 by package. Do it yourself and the pumpkins still have to go somewhere.
What removal costs on each display, and where the pumpkins go afterwards.
When doing it yourself is the better answer.
If you want a handful of pumpkins by the door, a decorator is the wrong tool. The same goes if the sourcing trip is the part you enjoy. An October morning at a farm stand is a good morning, and no service replaces it.
Hiring it out pays off when the display is large, when the season is short, or when nobody in the house wants to carry a hay bale up the front steps. Our four packages set out what each size holds.
